Teachers demand MPO
Teachers of two separate organisations yesterday demanded inclusion of their institutions on the government's Monthly Pay Order (MPO) list.
They also declared agitation programmes including staging indefinite sit-ins by boycotting classes to realise their demand.
Teachers of Bangladesh Besharkari Shikkhak Karmachari Parishad said that they will boycott classes and stage an indefinite sit-in programme before Jatiya Press Club on September 2 if no announcement from the government comes within 24 hours.
At a press conference at their headquarters in the capital, Parishad President Mohammed Hanif Ullah claimed around one lakh teachers and staffs across the country are passing days amid hardship as they do not get any financial benefit from the government.
Meanwhile, at a separate press conference at Jatiya Press Club, teachers of non-MPO Shikkha Pratishthan Shikkhak Karmachari Oikyajote said around 7,000 non-government secondary, madrasa, college, vocational and technical institutions are waiting to get the government's share in their payroll.
Esharat Ali, president of the organisation, said they will stage human chain in the districts on September 2, and hold a sit-in before the press club on September 13 if their demands are not met by this time.
