Prof Amir Hossain made dean
The result of the dean's election to faculty of social sciences of Jahangirnagar University, which was delayed, was announced yesterday with Prof Amir Hossain of Muktijuddher Pokkher Shakti panel having been made the dean.
JU Registrar Abu Bakar Siddique officially announced the result following a meeting where teachers of Muktijuddher Pokkher Shakti panel were present.
However, teachers of Shammilito Shikkhak Parishad did not participate in the meeting.
The result of the dean election for the social sciences faculty was delayed as two rival candidates, both from Awami Leage backed teacher's factions, got the same number of votes -- 50.
Meanwhile, terming the meeting illegal as per dean election rule, another candidate Prof Sajed Asraf Karim appealed to Vice-Chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain to revoke the meeting and the result. He said the meeting is not valid as the teachers of Shammilito Shikkhak Parishad were not present.
