The ambience surrounding the Martyred Intellectuals' Memorial in the capital's Rayerbazar seems to be degrading with time. Squatters have set up makeshift structures all around, an adjacent canal has been narrowed down by encroachers and criminal activities spiral with almost non-existent security measures in the area.
