Sohrab Murder
Accused 'put pressure' to withdraw case
A ward councillor of Sylhet city allegedly put pressure on a complainant to withdraw a murder case filed against him and his supporters.
Locals and family members of the complainant made the allegation in a human chain in front of Sylhet Zila Parishad in the city yesterday afternoon, demanding arrest of the councillor and his accomplices.
They also handed over memorandums to Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet.
Talking to reporters, the complainant Jahangir Hossain of the city's Pashchim Sheikhghat area alleged that Sikondar Ali, councillor of Ward No-12 of Sylhet City Corporation, has been putting pressure on him to withdraw the case.
On August 1 last year, some of Sikondar Ali's associates went to occupy Jahangir Hossain's homestead. They killed Sohrab Hossain, Jahangir's brother, as he tried to resist them, Jahangir added.
Following the incident, he filed a case with Sylhet Kotwali Police Station accusing Sikondar, his brothers Jahangir and Askir and others unnamed.
Later, they got bail from the High Court and have been putting the pressure on Jahangir Hossain and also threatened to kill him if he did not withdraw the case, Jahangir alleged.
The police are yet to submit the charge sheet of the case.
The ward councillor could not be contacted as his mobile phone was found switched off.
