EC to check voter list to detect Rohingyas
The Election Commission (EC) yesterday ordered the officials concerned to re-examine the draft voter list to detect alleged inclusion of Rohingyas in the list.
The EC came up with the directive following a report of an intelligence agency.
The agency has recently sent a report to the EC with information of inclusion of Rohingyas in the list in bordering areas of Cox's Bazar.
On January 2, the EC published the list of 9.22 crore voters ahead of the next parliamentary election.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said he asked the officials to scrutinise the voter list in Cox's Bazart to detect Rohingayas.
"A special committee will re-check voter-forms in these areas,†he told a press briefing at the EC Secretariat in the capital yesterday.
Since publication, the draft list has been kept open at the offices of district election officers, upazila election officers, municipality wards and union parishads and cantonment boards for public scrutiny. The commission will publish the final voter list on January 31.
