Wall magazine festival starts in capital

Inspiring young minds to cultivate a spirit of democracy and creativity, the 6th National Wall Magazine Festival and Competition 2013 began in the capital yesterday. Bangladesh Dewal Potrika Parishad organised the three-day long event on Bangla Academy premises in the cipital with the support of the Human Rights Awareness Unit of Ain o Salish Kendra. Around 50 wall magazines, made by school students, poured in from across the country for the competition. The magazines, which were exhibited at the venue, contained articles and opinion pieces on different aspects of Bangladesh, including industry, literature, history and culture. Besides, the magazines showcased poems, fiction stories, jokes, riddles and write-ups on science, health and women issues. The young contestants used colours, symbols and write ups to creatively display their knowledge, ideas and opinions in their wall magazines. Seasoned novelist Selina Hossain inaugurated the programme. Ain o Salish Kendra Chairperson Dr Hameeda Hossain; the daily Ittefaq Executive Editor Shahin Reza Noor; Dhaka University Professor Emeritus Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, also chairman of the Parishad; and Ain o Salish Kendra's Human Rights Unit Senior Deputy Director Motahar Akand, also general secretary of the Parishad, also addressed the programme.
