CU Chhatra Dal rift intensifies
Dogged by internal friction, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Chittagong University (CU) unit is yet to form a full-fledged committee even in two years.
Sources said the present JCD committee was formed in March 29, 2011 with only three members -- President Aminul Islam Towhid, General Secretary Saifuddin Salam Mithu and Senior Vice-President Nesarul Islam Nazmul.
Since then, several attempts by the leaders failed to form a full-fledged committee although the present committee's term expires on the upcoming March 29, said CU JCD leaders.
CU JCD members say that the main barrier to the full-fledged committee's formation was disagreement among these three leaders, who are supposed to suggest names of the 151 committee members to the central leaders.
Incidents of intra-party clashes are taking place frequently allegedly due to poor relation among the three.
After the formation of the three-member committee, Rupok Mia, in his 4th year in political science department and a JCD activist, was injured in an attack by rivals on December 19, 2011.
In another attack, four JCD activists including Aminul were injured on November 15, 2012. Recently two activists were injured in a similar attack on January 06, 2013.
The party supporters complained that the senior leaders show very little interest to hand over leadership to newcomers and were intentionally prolonging their studentship as they were irregular students.
Aminul completed his masters in Bangla in 2005 but later commenced his MPhil in the same department in 2010. Nesarul was a student of 1998-99 academic year and still continues his studies in the chemistry department.
Saifuddin appeared in his masters examination from mathematics department last year.
Aminul, however, denying the allegations of internal feuds, said they already submitted a list of the 151 members six months back to central leaders.
“We are trying our level best to form a full-fledged committee,†said Aminul, who on March 30, 2011, had also stated that the full committee would be formed within 15 days.
But Nesarul said the president's callousness was the main reason behind the stalemate of JCD politics in CU.
The situation turns bitter on big occasions like the JCD founding anniversary, death anniversary of former president Ziaur Rahman and the founding day of BNP.
Preferring anonymity, a JCD leader said the president had links with Islami Chhatra Shibir in the past.
Aminul denied these allegations and said they had identified the culprits behind these clashes.
