Journo assaulted in Rangpur
Some associates of a union parishad chairman assaulted a journalist for publishing a report in a daily on alleged corruption and irregularities of the chairman in Rangpur on Thursday evening.
Police and local sources said associates of Asaduzzaman Bablu, chairman of Gangachara Sadar Union Parishad, beat Mizanur Rahman Lulu, a journalist of Rangpur-based newspaper the Daily Juger Alo, in front of Gangachara Upazila Shaheed Minar and vandalised his motorbike.
Lulu said he came under the attack for publishing a news item that revealed corruptions and irregularities of Bablu. The report was published on Wednesday and Thursday.
Lulu lodged a case against six persons, including Bablu, with Gangachara Model Police Station on Thursday night.
Contacted, Bablu claimed that the journalist was assaulted by the people following a personal feud with them, not for the news item.
