BCL factional clash at BAU hurts 15
At least 15 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) unit were injured in a factional clash on the campus yesterday.
Of the injured, BAU BCL unit Organising Secretary Asaduzzaman Khokon, Rahat of agriculture faculty and Sujoy of fisheries faculty took treatment at the BAU Health Center while another Seju was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
BAU sources said two groups belong to BAU BCL unit President Shamsuddin Al Azad and Secretary Rafiquzzaman Emon locked in a clash with sharp weapons following beating of a BCL activist loyal to Emon group in BAU Rail Crossing area around 6:00pm.
Later, activists of the both groups locked in a clash that left at least 15 BCL men injured. Sound of gunfire was also heard during the clash, the sources said.
On information, BAU Students Affairs Adviser Prof Sultan Uddin Bhuiyan and members of proctorial body rushed to the spot around 7:00pm and brought the situation under control.
Additional police forces have been deployed on the campus to prevent any untoward incident.
BAU proctor (in-charge) Sajjad Hossain said the university authorities would serve show-cause notices to the students found responsible for the incident.
