The ruling Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance yesterday announced a series of political programmes to speed up the war crimes trial and protest the “conspiracy†of BNP-Jamaat to foil the trial. The programmes are countrywide mass campaigns and rallies from January 30 to February 10 and mass marches on February 15. These were announced at a human chain near Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital. Pressing home their demand, the AL leaders and activists formed human chains throughout the country including at 13 points in the capital alone. Many brought placards, festoons and chanted slogans. “We are making oath at the human chain that we will complete the war crimes trial and execute the verdicts in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,†said Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury. Regarding the verdict on Bachchu Razakar, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni said where people of Bangladesh are happy, BNP is silent. “The trial of crimes against humanity accused is going on and it will continue and we will establish rule of law through it,†said Dipu Moni. Rashed Khan Menon, president of Workers Party of Bangladesh, said after 1975, BNP established Jamaat politically, economically and in every sector.
