Fakhrul seeks bail in blast case

BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday sought bail in a case filed for blasting bombs and damaging vehicles during the opposition's countrywide road blockade on December 9 last year. Fakhrul's lawyer Sanaullah Miah filed the bail petition with Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court in Dhaka challenging the legality of a lower court's rejection order on the petition. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Shahidul Islam Faruque on Sunday sent Fakhrul to jail for the fourth time after rejecting a 10-day remand prayer of the investigation officer of the case and bail application of the accused. Judge (in-charge) Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman of Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court yesterday fixed January 30 for hearing on the bail petition. On January 16, the detained BNP leader was shown arrested in the case filed with Paltan Police Station for blasting bombs and damaging vehicles in front of the Nightingale restaurant at Bijoynagar in the capital.
