Two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) clashed at Jahangirnagar University yesterday, leaving eight of the activists injured. The clash started following the assault of a senior student by a junior on Tuesday night. The injured were given first aid at the university medical centre. Proctor Shohel Ahmed suffered minor wounds when he tried to control the situation. Sources said Masud Parves, a student of government and politics (38th batch), squabbled with Riyad, a senior student of pharmacy (36th batch), over fishing near the swimming pool on Tuesday. In the evening, Masud assaulted Riyad, a student of Bangabandhu Hall. The students of Kamal Uddin Hall, where Masud lives, and those of Bangabandhu Hall yesterday sat at Bot Tala to settle the dispute but to no avail. Later students of both the dormitories armed with machetes, hammers, and iron rods attacked each other. The university unit BCL primarily expelled Masud in this connection.
