Sylhet district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) President Pankaj Purkayostha has been expelled from the organisation on various allegations. Rahat Tarafder, president of Sylhet city unit of the pro-Awami League student body, confirmed the action against Pankaj. On Wednesday, BCL Central Committee Office Secretary Sheikh Russell sent a letter to the BCL unit in this regard, he said. Rahat said the decision of expulsion came after an inquiry into the allegations against Pankaj. The allegations include opening fire on BCL activists who belong to his rival factions, extortion, tender looting, torching MC College and Sylhet Sarkari College dormitories and involvement in murder of BCL activist Udayendu Sinha Polash. Despite several attempts over cellphone, Pankaj could not be contacted as his cellphone was found switched off.
