Prof Mosharraf Hossain commemorated
Prof Mosharraf Hossain, noted economist and the Mujibnagar government planning commission member, will forever remain alive throughout the movement of Projonmo Chattar, said speakers at a commemorative meeting in the capital yesterday.
He passed away on February 21 due to old age complications.
Khushi Kabir, coordinator of Nijera Kori, said, “He (Mosharraf Hossain) was one of the core thinkers who researched on the then prevailing gross economic discrimination between East and West Pakistan. The role of his research and teachings was indispensable in every movement that weaved the way towards the independence of this country.â€
Gono Forum organised the meeting commemorating Mosharraf Hossain at Dhaka Reporter's Unity.
Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui, eminent educationist, said, “Mosharraf has been my friend for decades. We completed our graduation together and joined Rajshahi University as young faculty members. The ignited days of 50s and 60s helped us rediscover ourselves. We had friendly terms with students and used to guide them through friendly advice.â€
Dr Kamal Hossain, a principal author of the Constitution of Bangladesh and president of Gono Forum, said, “Due to prolonged illness, he (Mosharraf Hossain) could not know about the present upsurge of youths. I would like to tell him that our vision of a secular democratic country is now flowing through the veins of the youth.â€
Advocate Subrata Chowdhury was also present at the meeting.
