Jamaat-Shibir violence condemned at RU
Ban demanded
Teachers and students of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday condemned the Friday's attacks of Jamaat-Shibir and other Islamist parties on Shaheed Minar and Gonojagoron Mancha and tearing and burning of the national flag.
Terming Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir as "terrorist organisations", they demanded that the organisations be declared banned soon.
While addressing a rally on the campus, they said they will continue their movement until the war criminals are given death penalty and Jamaat-Shibir are declared banned.
RU Progressive Teachers' Society Convener Prof Ananda Kumar Saha, Prof Maloy Kumar Bhoumick, RU unit Chhatra Union President Shipon Ahmed and Biploby Chhatra Moitree General Secretary Ikbal Kabir, among others, addressed programme.
Earlier, more than one hundred teachers and students under the banner of Kendrio Sangskritik Jote brought out a protest procession on the campus around 12:00pm.
Meanwhile, the teachers and students of different departments including Law, Music and Drama, Mass Communication and Journalism attended their classes and examinations defying the yesterday's hartal called by several Islamists parties.
