Say 'yes' to fight against corruption
Speakers tell Satkhira workshop
Speakers at a workshop here yesterday said rampant corruption at all levels is destroying the economic potential of the country.
They stressed the need for building a social movement to curb corruption, which is hindering development of the country.
They urged political parties to get rid of corrupt, black money holders and musclemen and to create atmosphere for honest and efficient people to come to politics.
Transparency and accountability in politics must be ensured to remove corruption, they said. To remove corruption, politicians must be honest first because they lead the country and the people.
The workshop, organised by Satkhira Sachetan Nagarik Committee (conscious citizens'c), a unit of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), was held at Satkhira Lawyers Auditorium.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Tapan kumar Chakraborty inaugurated the workshop, addressed by, among others, advocate A K M Shahidullah, Syed Uddin Ahmed, Toufik Mahiuddin and Abdur Rahman.
The speakers said that 80 per cent of foreign aid is misused due to corruption by a section of politicians and government officials.
They urged the people to say 'Yes' to a movement to fight corruption. Over 100 member of TIB attended the workshop.
