Daylight saving scheme
What should have been done ages ago has been sent to different ministries for opinion. This is not the Friday-Sunday issue to be debated upon. If you want to save energy by closing down shops and businesses at 8:00pm, then adopt the daylight saving scheme to save more. Pushing the clock in summer by one hour, you actually save daylight. You do not need artificial light when the sun has not yet set. The statistics are as simple as that.
This scheme is being followed in almost all the developed countries where the effect is felt all the more. When this was started in those countries, fuel was literally cheaper than water. So, they did not adopt it to save energy or costs. Their concept was totally different. Take the case of the UK or the USA. Some of us may find it hard to believe, but there in the summer the sun usually sets between 8:00 and 9:00pm. Offices close for most people at 5:00pm. Because of the harsh and long winter, the people love the summer and the sun. By pushing the clocks in summer by one hour, the sun starts setting between 9:00 and 10:00pm instead of 8:00 and 9:00pm As a result, they get around 4 to 5 hours after office to attend to their chores, finish their shopping, go to parks or just stroll around. And all this is done in the sun and daylight. What a wonderful idea!! If you are thinking that you will start studying after the sun sets (as is the culture in our country), then you have to stay up for most part of the night. Those who have to prepare for their exams go by the clock and not by the sun.
In our country, by shifting the clock by one hour we will save a large amount of energy in the summer. The 9:00 to 5:00 office goers will also have more time to attend to errands and reach home before sunset. There should be no doubt in our minds about that.
