Ansar Al Islam nayeb-e-amir, four others arrested in Jatrabari
Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit yesterday arrested five members of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam, including its nayeb-e-amir, from Jatrabari in Dhaka.
CTTC's Special Action Group conducted a raid in Kajla area last evening and arrested the five, CTTC Chief Md Asaduzzaman said at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre today.
The arrestees are -- Nayeb-e-Amir Sakhawatul Kabir alias Anis alias Rafique, 45, military wing chief of Dhaka region Ihsanur Rahman alias Murad alias Saif, 26, and members Bakhtiar Rahman alias Nazmul, 30, Yusuf Ali Sarker, 31, and Jahedul Islam alias Ashraf, 35.
Two foreign pistols and 15 rounds of bullets were recovered from them.
Asaduzzaman said the arrestees had gathered in Jatrabari to carry out sabotage at different places in Dhaka.
As security has been beefed up recently, they have been conducting organisational activities through mobile apps, the CTTC chief said.
A case was filed against the five under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Jatrabari Police Station.
Police have sought 10-day remand for them and a Dhaka court is expected to pass an order in this regard later in the day.
