Police arrested four men in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh for their alleged involvement in the rape of a 14-year-old girl.

The arrestees -- Md Hossain, 21; Faruq Ahmed, 17; Md Arif, 17; and Md Mehdi Hasan, 20 -- all from Panchgaon village of the upazila, were produced before a Mymensingh court today, where their confessional statements were recorded under Section 164, said Additional Police Superintendent Md Abdullah Al Mamun.

The victim, who lost her parents at the age of four and was raised by her stepmother, had left home two months ago following alleged mistreatment. She began working at a diagnostic centre in Mymensingh city and reportedly met a boy through Facebook six months ago. On March 14, she travelled to Bhaluka to meet him.

Upon arrival at Bhaluka bus stand, a man received her and took her in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw to Panchgaon village, where she was repeatedly raped and left in critical condition. Local residents rescued her and sent her to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex before she was referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Police Superintendent Mohammad Kamrul Hasan instructed officers to apprehend all involved in the crime.
