Man killed over land dispute

A man was killed following a long-standing dispute over a piece of land in Jamalpur's Bokshiganj upazila yesterday, said police.

The deceased is Shamim Mia, 25, of Kushal Nagar village.

Quoting his family members, Bokshiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shohel Rana said there was a long-standing dispute between Shamim's father Shafiqul Islam and his uncle Saiful Islam over 16 decimals of land.

Shamim planted eggplant seedlings on the disputed land Monday evening, but he found all seedlings uprooted last morning.

Shamim with his mother Shahina Begum went to Saiful's house to settle the matter around 9:30am.

At one stage, they got into an argument and Saiful hit Shamim with a locally made sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.

He was initally taken to Bokshiganj Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

But Shamim died of his injuries on the way to the hospital.
