Supplier fined Tk 4 lakh for selling substandard food in Cox’s Bazar
Shaibal Food Product was fined Tk 4 lakh for supplying low-standard curd, pudding, and custard to restaurants in Cox's Bazar at a low price, which in turn were being sold to tourists at higher prices.
Being informed, a team of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority conducted a raid at its factory in Kolatoli area of the beach town yesterday afternoon.
The authority fined the factory owner Amir Hossain, of Moheshkhali upazila in the district, Tk 4 lakh for making and supplying low-grade food in an unhealthy environment.
AHM Asif Bin Ikram, executive magistrate (deputy director) of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, said the mobile court, conducted with the cooperation of Cox's Bazar district administration, found that the factory was making curd, pudding, and custard without maintaining proper health and hygiene guidelines.
The curd, brought from Bogura, with expiry date of seven days, actually has a two-day shelf life, he said.
They have a licence to produce only curd but they made other foodstuff without maintaining hygiene, the official said.
He said the factory owner has been given the minimum penalty as he admitted to his guilt.
He gave a bond that he will not produce anything in an unhygienic way, the official said.
