Teenager found dead in Narsingdi field; family alleges rape and murder
Police today recovered the body of a teenage girl from a crop field in Narsingdi’s Madhabdi upazila.
The deceased, Amena Akter, 15, was a garment worker and a resident of Bilpar area. She lived with her parents in a rented house in Darikandi.
Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sujon Chandra Sarker said the body was recovered with a scarf wrapped around her neck.
The victim’s parents alleged that she was killed by a group of stalkers who had gang-raped her around two weeks ago.
Speaking to journalists, the victim’s mother, Fahimina Begum, said Amena was previously acquainted with a local man, Nurul Islam, 25, of the same area.
The girl’s father, Ashraf Hossain, alleged that around 15 days ago, Nurul and four to five associates abducted his daughter on her way home from work and raped her.
He told The Daily Star that the family attempted to file a case but were threatened with death if they proceeded.
“They even intercepted us on our way to the police station. Being intimidated, we returned home,” he said.
Ashraf claimed they later informed Ahmed Ali Dewan, a member of ward 9 of Mahishashura union, who settled the matter through a social arbitration.
“But Nurul kept stalking my daughter. Feeling insecure, we decided to send her to a safer place,” he said.
According to the father, on Wednesday night, he was taking his daughter to a relative’s house when Nurul and his associates intercepted them around 10:00pm in Boroitala area and abducted her.
Failing to find her despite searching, he said he informed Ahmed Ali Dewan.
“We found my daughter’s body on Thursday morning in a mustard field,” he said.
“They killed my daughter after raping her again. I want justice.”
Ahmed Ali Dewan denied mediating any arbitration and said he was not home when the family came to see him that night.
Farida Gulshana Kabir, resident medical officer of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, said the body has been received and an autopsy will be conducted tomorrow (Friday).
ASP Sarker said police are investigating the incident. “Details will be known after the autopsy.”
Regarding the earlier rape allegation, Md Kamal Hosaain, officer-in-charge of Madhabdi Police Station, said police were unaware of any such incident, as no complaint had been filed.
Nurul went into hiding after the incident, the OC said, adding that police detained one person, Ebadullah, 38, today for alleged involvement.
“The victim’s family is preparing to file a case tonight (Thursday),” he said.
