UNB, Dhaka

Police recovered the body of a woman from under the Mouchak-Malibagh flyover, near the Safena Women's Dental College Hospital in Dhaka's Malibagh in the early hours today.

Police are unsure whether it was a case of suicide or murder till the filing of this report.

The victim is Sahida Islam Meem, 21, of Bagichartek of West Rampura in the capital.

On information, police recovered the body at around 3:00am, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Amena Khanam of Ramna Police Station.

The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy at around 10:00am.

The exact cause of her death will be known after the post-mortem report, said SI Amena.

Talking to reporters, Azimun Islam, the mother of the victim, said her daughter went out while talking to one of her male friends over the phone around 8:30pm last night.

"We tried to contact her several times on her phone when she didn't return home. However, she didn't pick up the phone," she said.

"In the early hours of Monday, the police called and asked us to go to the Ramna Police Station," she said. "We went there and identified her body."

"I believe my daughter was killed," she alleged.

When contacted, Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hasan said police came to know that the victim was last seen on the flyover, locked in an altercation with someone late last night.

She may have died by suicide or she may have been pushed off the flyover, the OC said.

However, the actual reason behind her death will be known after investigation, said OC Abul.
