Cop found dead, wife injured in hotel room

Police recovered the body of a police officer from a hotel room in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram yesterday, while his wife was rescued from the same room with severe injuries.

The 10-month-old daughter, Fatiha Akter, of Assistant Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam, 32, and Tahmina Akter, 24, was unharmed.

Aminul, posted at Rangamati Police Lines, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at the hotel in Baratakia Bazar, police said.

Quoting the hotel manager, Mirsarai Police Station OC Aulad Hossain said the couple checked in on Sunday and left twice -- in the afternoon and evening.

“This [yesterday] morning, after receiving no response from the room, hotel staff knocked repeatedly. Later, Tahmina, who was bloodstained, opened the door around 11:00am. The staff then found Aminul hanging.”

The OC said investigators are probing whether it was a suicide or involved foul play, he added.
