GK Shamim’s mother sent to jail

A Dhaka court yesterday rejected a bail petition of Ayesha Akhter, mother of expelled Jubo League leader GK Shamim, and sent her to jail in a graft case.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judge's Court of Dhaka passed the order after she surrendered before the court through her lawyer, seeking bail in the case. The judge also transferred the case to the Special Judge's Court-4 and fixed March 30 for hearing on the charge framed against them.

On November 16 last year, the same court accepted the charges. ACC filed the case against Shamim, a top government-listed contractor, and his mother on October 21, 2019 for accumulating illegal wealth worth Tk 297 crore.
