Schoolboy beaten to death during clash between teenagers in Mymensingh
A schoolboy has been beaten to death during a clash between two groups of teenagers over previous enmity in Mymensingh’s Muktagacha upazila.
The victim was identified as Md Siam, 15, son of Abdus Salam of Shibpur village in Muktagacha. He was a class nine student at local Mankone High School, police said.
The clash took place at the Padurbari High School ground in Muktagacha upazila on Thursday evening. Siam, who was injured in the incident, died on the way to Dhaka early today while being taken for better treatment, police and locals said.
Quoting family members and locals, Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Muktagacha Police Station, said Siam, along with his friends, went to a fair at the Padurbari High School ground around 7:30pm on Thursday.
An altercation broke out between two groups of teenagers from Mankone village and adjacent Shibpur village over a previous enmity. At one stage, the situation intensified into a clash.
During the clash, rivals beat Siam with bamboo sticks, leaving him critically injured.
Locals took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), from where he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. However, he died on the way around 4:00am today, the OC said.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the MMCH morgue for autopsy.
Two people have been detained for interrogation, said the OC, adding that the process of filing a case is underway.
