Books can guide next generation in right direction: Milon

Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today said books were essential for guiding future generations in the right direction and urged students to develop the habit of reading.

He made the remarks at a reception marking the 12th anniversary of the joint book-reading programme of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra and bKash at a Dhaka hotel.

“The future generation will lead the country tomorrow. Therefore, they need to be built as capable citizens. For this, the next generation should be encouraged to read good books,” Milon said.

He said the government had taken various initiatives to make education more enjoyable and creative.

The minister said the government was placing special emphasis on sports, culture, technical and vocational education, and joyful learning to develop students’ talents and skills.

Milon also said corporate social responsibility initiatives by different organisations play an important role in social development.

“Alongside the state, organisations from different sectors of society need to come forward to create humane and creative people,” he said.

He stressed the need to encourage young people to develop reading habits to keep them away from drug and mobile phone addiction.

Bishwa Sahitya Kendra Executive Director Khandaker Md Asaduzzaman and bKash Chief Executive Officer Kamal Quadir also spoke at the event.
