Pabna-3, 4 seats: BNP demands vote recount
BNP leaders and activists in the Pabna-3 and Pabna-4 constituencies yesterday afternoon laid siege to the Pabna deputy commissioner’s office as well as the district returning officer’s office, demanding a recounting of votes in the two seats.
In the constituencies, Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidates secured win in the 13th national election, defeating two BNP leaders by a very little difference.
Talking to The Daily Star, Ahmed Mostafa Noman, key agent of Pabna-3 BNP candidate Hasan Zafir Tuhin, alleged that their polling agents in few polling centres were sidelined during vote counting.
“Results in a few centres were finalised without signatures of the [their] agents.”
Md Firoz, a voter from Tilakpur under Pabna-4, alleged that Jamaat men manipulated votes. Habibur Rahman ran as the BNP backed candidate.
The demonstrators, along with the two BNP candidates, submitted applications to the DC, seeking recounting of votes. Executive Magistrate Abdul Alim said those were already sent to the Election Commission.
