Independent candidate for Brahmanbaria-2, Barrister Rumeen Farhana, has lodged a written complaint with the district returning officer, alleging that a local Jubo Dal leader made defamatory and indecent remarks against her and her supporters at a recent event.

Rumeen, who was expelled from BNP recently, said that the remarks constitute a violation of the electoral code of conduct and urged the authorities to take immediate action.

She submitted a formal complaint to the Brahmanbaria district returning officer today.

In the complaint, she said that on January 11, 2026, at a milad mahfil held in Sharifpur of Ashuganj upazila, a local Jubo Dal leader, Alamgir Khan, said, “There is no difference between Rumeen Farhana and Momtaz,” and used "indecent, defamatory" language directed at her and her supporters.

She said the remarks stirred resentment among her grassroots supporters.

The complaint also states that such comments clearly violate the electoral code of conduct and may undermine the integrity of a free and fair election. She also attached a video link supporting her allegations.

She urged the returning officer to take the matter seriously and to take swift and effective action to ensure a level playing field.

Earlier, Rumeen Farhana was expelled from the BNP for defying party decisions by contesting as an independent candidate from Brahmanbaria-2.

When contacted, Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Sharmin Akhter Jahan and said, “We have received the complaint. Based on the allegations, it will be forwarded to a judicial magistrate for legal action. The magistrate will then take the necessary steps.”
