Country turns the land of Hirak Raja: Fakhrul

Coming down hard on the government over the dengue epidemic across the country, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the country has been made worse than the land of Hirak Raja.

He also compared the rule of the current government with that of the oppressive fictional monarch in Satyajit Ray’s satirical film 'Hirak Rajar Deshe' who ran his empire by the dictates of his whims.

"Even, this regime is worse than that of 'Hirak Rajar Deshe” Fakhrul said while addressing a programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka this noon.

He said the health minister has gone abroad when the countrymen were suffering from dengue crisis and after his arrival, he even can speak the truth about his foreign trip or can say the exact number of people suffering from dengue fever.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque, on July 25, said, “Somehow we could not control the mosquito population. The mosquito population and the Rohingya population are growing at the same pace.”

Fakhrul also blasted the health minister for such remarks and said, “What a great inhuman he is! We have to hear such type of unkind speech from a minister.”

Fakhrul also blamed authorities concerned for importing ineffective insecticides to kill mosquitoes and curb its outbreak across the country and said corruption will also be committed to importing the new insecticides to kill the mosquito.

“The authority has brought two types of medicine from abroad but those have already been banned in Thailand. Now, they (govt) is planning to bring deputy mayor of Kolkata as their consultant,” he said citing the government failures in different sectors including curbing the mosquito menace.

“I want to say clearly, revoke the parliament before ending your time and arrange an election under a nonparty government. Otherwise, the people know how they will unseat the government from power,” he warned.
