BCB forms 3-member Election Commission for 2026 elections
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Wednesday constituted a three-member Election Commission to oversee its Board of Directors Election 2026.
Senior Advocate Ahsanul Karim has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner while the other two members of the commission are: Md. Israil Hawlader, Police Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police and A. B. M. Ehsanul Mamun, Deputy Secretary and Director (Planning & Development) at the National Sports Council (NSC).
According to a BCB press release, the Election Commission will oversee and conduct all necessary procedures related to the Board of Directors Elections in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.
The previous BCB board, led by Aminul Islam Bulbul, was dissolved by the NSC on April 7 following allegations of widespread irregularities during last year’s October 6 elections. On the same day, the NSC formed an 11-member ad hoc committee, appointing former national captain Tamim Iqbal as its president.
At the time, the NSC had instructed the committee to organise an election within three months, setting a deadline of July 6. However, the ad hoc committee is now aiming to complete the process well before that date as it has already decided to invite nominations for 192 councillors from various associations, clubs, and organisations for the upcoming elections, with a deadline set for May 16.
