Despite Indonesia win, captain Joty demands Tigresses ‘rectify mistakes’ ahead of Sri Lanka match

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty wants her side to build on their first-up victory over Indonesia when they take on Sri Lanka in their next clash at the Asia Cup.

Bangladesh commenced their Asia Cup campaign in style with a dominant 71-run victory over Indonesia at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Monday, but Sultana Joty has challenged her side to improve on that effort when they face reigning champions Sri Lanka at the same venue on Sunday.

Joty suggested prior to the tournament that Bangladesh were aiming to finish on top of their group to give themselves the best chance of reaching the Asia Cup final and a victory over Sri Lanka will be crucial to their fortunes if they are to achieve that goal.

"There are a lot of areas we could have done better," Sultana Joty said after the win over Indonesia.

"We need to bowl more in the right areas, we do have some time before our next game so we'll rectify our mistakes.

"We played at the last few Asia Cups, and it didn't go our way, we want to go all the way this time. We have to play our A-game."

Sobhana Mostary scored 40 and Shorna Akter an unbeaten 31 as Bangladesh compiled a decent total of 129/8, with Nahida Akter (3/15) and Marufa Akter (2/6) combining for five wickets in reply as Indonesia were bundled out for just 58 in reply.

Indonesia captain Nanda Sakarini was pleased with the efforts of her bowlers to restrict Bangladesh to a reachable score and is hoping for a similar performance when they take on Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

"The bowlers did the best job, but to win we need to be ruthless against a big team," Sakarini said post-match.

"We are very happy to be here, we deserve to be here.

"The fight from the girls, the excitement from the girls, next game we will give the same."
