The independent inquiry committee which was formed by the National Sports Council (NSC) to look into irregularities in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election last year, is hopeful of completing their inquiry within the given time frame.

In a press release last month, NSC had announced that “The independent inquiry committee, which was formed on March 11, will submit its report to the State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, within 15 working days of its formation.”

The committee began its work on March 24 after the Eid-ul-Fitr vacation and are expected to submit their report within the second week of April.

Head of the inquiry committee, retired Supreme Court justice AKM Asaduzzaman, informed reporters that their investigations are underway.

“We are currently in the middle of the process, as you know. We were given a timeframe of 15 working days, and we are within that limit,” he said.

At the time of the inquiry committee’s formation, BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul was in Australia with his family.

Now, Bulbul has returned to the country and Asaduzzaman said that they have received a written message from the BCB boss.

Asked if the inquiry committee has met with Bulbul yet, he said: “No. Try to understand one basic thing: we are not conducting a judicial inquiry. If it were a judicial inquiry, we would have to show-cause someone, accuse them, take complaints, and conduct hearings--that falls under a different process. We are not sitting for a judicial inquiry.”

Azaduzzaman was optimistic about finishing the investigation on time.

“We are still within our given timeframe. Our work is still ongoing. Once the results are out, we will share everything.”
