6 wins from 6: Barca can set a new record in their next match

Barcelona's 2026-27 season could hardly have started in more impressive fashion.

Hansi Flick's side have made a perfect beginning to their competitive campaign, winning all six of their opening matches and creating an atmosphere of growing confidence around the club.

Five of those victories have come in LaLiga, against Elche, Athletic Club, Rayo Vallecano, Valencia and Levante, while the Champions League campaign also began with a win over Feyenoord. Six games, six victories and a 100 percent record have put Barça firmly at the top of the early-season conversation.

The perfect start has also placed Flick's team alongside some of the most successful sides in Barcelona history. Only three previous Barça teams had won their first six competitive matches of a season. The first came almost a century ago, in 1929/30, when James Bellamy's team opened the campaign with six straight victories. In 1960/61, Ljubisa Brocic's side matched the achievement, winning their first four league games before completing the run with victories in both legs of their European Cup tie against Belgian club Lierse.

More than 50 years later, Ernesto Valverde's Barcelona repeated the feat in 2018/19. That particular run was notable because the six victories came across three competitions. Barça began with a Spanish Super Cup victory over Sevilla, followed that with four consecutive LaLiga wins and then defeated PSV 4-0 in the Champions League. Yet all three historic teams eventually failed to win their seventh competitive match.

The 1929-30 side were held by Athletic Club at Les Corts, while the 1960-61 team lost to Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano. Valverde's 2018-19 Barcelona were stopped by Girona, who earned a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou. Now Flick's team have an opportunity to go one step further and create a new record.

Their latest victory, a hard-fought 4-2 win over Levante in Valencia, showed both the quality and imperfections of the current side. Lamine Yamal was once again decisive, scoring twice, while Xavi Espart and Karim Adeyemi also found the net. The result maintained Barça's perfect league record, with five wins from five and a three-point advantage over Real Madrid.

However, the match also exposed some defensive weaknesses. Barcelona looked comfortable for long periods, but Levante fought back late in the game through goals from Ivan Romero and Roger Brugue, making the final stages unnecessarily tense. Flick admitted afterwards that it was not Barcelona's best performance, particularly in the second half, but he was satisfied with the result and insisted that the team must continue improving.

Rodri's assured presence in midfield and captain Raphinha's relentless running were also important to the victory. Together with Yamal's attacking brilliance, they helped Barcelona overcome a difficult spell and preserve their winning streak.

Now the challenge is clear. Racing Santander stand between Barça and history [1.30am, Bangladesh time, Thursday]. Victory would make it seven consecutive competitive wins to start the season, taking Flick's team beyond every previous Barcelona side that achieved six. The numbers are already impressive, the football is producing results and the belief is growing. For this Barcelona team, the message is simple: just keep on winning.
