Bangladesh through to semis in SAFF U20 Championship

Bangladesh Under-20 football team have qualified for the semifinal of the ongoing SAFF U-20 Championship from Group B after Pakistan’s second successive defeat in the group-stage on Thursday.

Bangladesh had defeated Pakistan 2-0 on Tuesday, courtesy of a brace from Ronan Sullivan. On Thursday, India also thumped Pakistan, winning by a 3-0 margin, to knock out their perennial rivals from the competition.

With one win each, Bangladesh and India have qualified for the semifinals from the three-team group. They will face off on Saturday to determine who tops the group.

Meanwhile, in the four-team Group A, Nepal have already confirmed qualification with two wins in as many matches. Sri Lanka are in second position with one win and one defeat while host Maldives and Bhutan have one point each from a goalless draw against each other.

On Thursday, Omang Dodum struck a brace and Vishal Yadav netted one goal for India while Pakistan’s campaign ended goalless.
