New Bangladesh football jerseys priced at Tk 1,600

Star Sports Report

The new official Bangladesh national team jersey will be priced at Tk 1,600, while a version featuring a player's name and number will cost Tk 1,700, according to Abid Alam, the founder and CEO of Dour.

The new jerseys, which were supposed to be unveiled last month, was eventually unveiled on Tuesday in presence of Aminul Haque, State Minister for Youth and Sports, and Tabith Awal, the president of Bangladesh Football Federation.

Speaking after the jersey launch at the National Sports Council auditorium on Tuesday, Abid said the higher price reflects the improved quality of the fabric as well as the significant costs involved in producing, marketing and distributing the jersey.

He also claimed that a substantial royalty from jersey sales goes to the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), although he did not disclose the exact amount.

“I don’t think it is too expensive,” Abid said, arguing that the price remains competitive internationally. He claimed that, to his knowledge, the new Bangladesh jersey is the cheapest national-team jersey in the world.

For fans looking for a more affordable option, the fan edition is expected to cost Tk 700, the same price as the previous edition. Abid said the price could increase by Tk 50 at most.

The new jerseys will not be limited to online sales. Dour plans to make them available through physical outlets, including international locations. Abid said the company wants to take the jersey to markets such as Singapore and South America, as well as shops at venues such as the FIFA Museum.

Demand has already begun to build despite the jerseys not having been widely released. Abid said corporate buyers had already placed orders, with companies including Robi and Banglalink among them. Around 1,000 to 1,500 jerseys had been ordered by corporate clients, he said, with some orders placed before the buyers had even seen the new design.

Overall sales have reportedly reached around 35,000, although Abid said he could not provide an exact figure.

The company is targeting sales of 100,000 jerseys by December, with expectations of stronger demand than the previous edition as Bangladesh prepare for the FIFA ASEAN Cup and the SAFF Championship.

The home and away kits have been launched, while the third kit has yet to receive approval. Abid said its design has already been submitted and several colour options have been proposed, with the third kit potentially being launched after the SAFF Championship.

He added that the timing of the launch was not determined by Dour. The company had been ready to release the jerseys since June, but the launch was repeatedly delayed to accommodate the schedules of VIP guests and to give the Bangladesh jersey a separate window rather than releasing it during the crowded World Cup jersey-launch period.
