Bangladesh Women's Sports Association president (BWSA) Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla is representing the country at the IWG Global Summit on Women and Sport 2026, the world's largest conference dedicated to gender equality and women's empowerment in sport.

The three-day summit, running from July 9 to 11 in Birmingham, has brought together around 1,200 delegates, including sports administrators, policymakers and athletes from across the world.

Barrister Shukla, who also serves as vice-president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association and a director of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP), is participating in networking sessions and discussions with international sports leaders and Olympic committee representatives.

Before departing for the UK, Barrister Shukla said the summit would provide an opportunity to showcase Bangladesh's progress while learning from global best practices.

"Through this global platform, we want to highlight Bangladesh's achievements while drawing on modern strategies for women's leadership and legal protection in sport and applying them in our own context," she said.

Barrister Shukla was recently appointed to a government committee formed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to promote the protection, equality and rights of women in sport.
