Hockey league to return with first division
The First Division Hockey League is set to return after a three-year hiatus, with the Bangladesh Hockey Federation deciding to resume the competition from September 20.
The decision was taken on Tuesday at the first meeting of the newly formed First Division League Committee, attended by representatives of all 11 participating clubs at the federation's meeting room.
The clubs had demanded financial assistance of Tk 500,000 each to take part in the league. Although the federation said it would not be able to provide such a large amount as a one-off grant, general secretary Ishtiak Sadeque expressed his willingness to provide Tk 250,000 to each club.
Reassured by the financial support, representatives of all 11 clubs agreed to return to competition.
The meeting also unanimously set September 6 and 7 as the dates for the players' transfer window, with the league scheduled to begin on September 20.
There will be no foreign players in this edition, while the competition will be played in a single round-robin format.
