Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon told parliament today that the government is considering recruiting around 9,000 religious teachers to strengthen moral and religious education in primary schools.

He, however, acknowledged complications in teacher recruitment, particularly concerning the recognition of certificates from Qawmi madrasas.

“The ministry is working to resolve these certificate-related issues so that qualified candidates can be appointed as Islamic studies teachers,” he said.

Milon was responding to a supplementary question from ruling party MP Monirul Haque Chowdhury of Cumilla-6.

He added that under the newly elected government’s 180-day programme, preparations are underway for various reforms in the primary education sector.

The minister noted that former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia had also emphasised primary education, and said the current government is prioritising the sector once again.

He added that they have already received directives from the prime minister to bring major changes to the primary education system, with special emphasis on strengthening students’ moral values and religious awareness.
