Bappa Mazumder
Bappa Mazumder

This week's artist was born in a family that lives in melody. Becoming a musician was a rite of passage for the young Bappa Mazumder. A singer, lyricist and music composer, Bappa has gifted our musical panorama a number of diverse musical numbers. His music is a blend of soothing tracks and experimental fusion numbers. He has also recorded successful cover versions of old melodies. On the eve of the country's Independence Day, Bappa came up with two new soulful numbers and rearranged the evergreen track Dhonodhanne Pushpe Bhora. It's little wonder that in all three songs Bappa is at his usual best. The musician does not require any further introduction, this week the Star chats with Bappa Mazumder.

If You Were Not a Singer
I would have been an architect.

First Guru of Your Musical Life
I picked up my first musical lessons from my parents, the classical maestro Ustad Barin Mazumdar and Ila Mazumder.

Your Favourite amongst the Three Patriotic Songs You Recently Recorded
Of course the remake of the song Dhonodhanne Pushpe Bhora was extra special to me. This song is already very close to all of our hearts, so bringing this old familiar song to our audience in a new form makes it more special to me.

If You Could Change One Thing about the Music Scene of Bangladesh
I would put an end to our practice of downloading songs illegally in the first place. And secondly, I would bring a change in our mentality of having a strong affinity towards foreign culture. If we could change these two, I believe several crises in the music industry of the country could have been averted.

Beside Music
I am into remote control helicopters and computer games. Other than these two, I love photography.

Qualities an Artist Should Possess
Being a good human being is very important if you are working in the creative media.

Most Significant Achievement of Your Musical Journey
The fact that I met Hasan Abidur Reja Jewel and Sanjeeb Chowdhury. These two people transformed my life in a significant manner.
