PM opens inter-city train at Lalmonirhat today

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will inaugurate the second inter-city train between northern districts and Dhaka at Lalmonirhat station at 12-30 pm today.

The train will cross the Jamuna Bridge and reach Kamalapur station in 10 hours.

It will touch Kaunia, Gaibandha, Bogra, Santahar, Natore, Sadanandapur (on the western side of Jamuna bridge), Syedabad (on the eastern side of the bridge), tangail, Joydevpur and Zia International Airport station.

The train will begin commercial service on march 9 with 11 bogies and shuttle on six days a week except on Saturday. There will be 15 bogies including three for high officials in the inaugural journey, Divisional Railway Manager Emdadul Haq said. The train had a trial run on February 28.

Haq said another inter-city train between Parbatipur (Dinajpur) and Dhaka through the Jamuna Bridge is ready for service after its trial run on February 26. It may be pressed into service on April 14, he said.
