Top Magura AL leaders summoned to Dhaka to resolve intra-party feud
AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil in a letter has asked them to attend a meeting at the party central office today, they said.
The leaders include district AL convener and joint-convener, presidents and general secretaries of four upazila units and one poura unit, the lawmaker from Magura-1 constituency and former lawmaker from Magura-2.
The internal fend in Magura AL surfaced in January this year when the two rival factions led by Dr M Serajul Akbar MP and district convener Md Altaf Hossain clashed during councils of several party units at upazila level.
Subsequently, two rival groups began holding meetings and processions separately, intensifying the infighting.
Council of Magura district AL, scheduled for January 23 after about 11 years, was postponed due to intra-party squabbles. This frustrated dedicated leaders and activists, the party sources said.
"As the party is dogged by internal conflict and party leaders and activists are split into two groups, the party high command has arranged today's meeting to resolve the dispute," a top party leader told this correspondent seeking anonymity.
When asked, district convener Md Altaf Hossain however said, "The central leadership has summoned us only to discuss some problems here to strengthen the oust-government movement."
