Vessels negotiate off-season dense fog

Dense fog is disrupting communication in river routes in southern districts for the last three nights.

Fog blankets rivers after midnight, which continue till the morning, blurring visibility, vessel operators said here.

More than 50 launches with thousands of passengers on board were bound to anchor in mid-river at different points in Hizla, Muladi, Mehendiganj, they said.

Vessels reached their destinations six to eight hours behind schedule.

The Rocket steamer PS Shella plying Dhaka-Khulna route reached Barisal at about 11 AM yesterday, six hours behind schedule.

Local meteorological department sources said fluctuation in temperature and rise in humidity created the foggy weather. This may continue some days more.

Agricultural department officials apprehend that continuation of fog may increase pest attack and damage Rabi crops.
