Doctors' residences, offices ransacked

Fazlur Rahman, 45, an ailing vegetable trader went to the hospital's Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Gobinda Lal Biswas for treatment. Instead of examining, Dr Biswas asked him to see Dr Akuluddin of the hospital. Sources alleged, the RMO was gossiping with medical representatives at that time.

However, ailing Fazlur met Dr Akul who suggested him to get admitted in the hospital. Accordingly he got admitted in the hospital and died within two hours of admission due to lack of treatment.

After his death tension mounted in the hospital area. Angry people confined doctors inside their rooms.

The situation worsened with death of two more patients. They are Hamid Mollah, 70, of Gopalpur and Safiuddin, 55, of Elongipara, Kumarkhali. Then the agitating people ransacked doctors' chambers and quarters.

Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Additional police force was deployed at the hospital.
