2 children drown as trawler sinks in Barisal

They are Lamia Khanom, 8, daughter of Mannan Sarder and Palash Sarder, 7, son of Luthfar Sarder. The rest swam ashore.

The body of Lamia was recovered from a nearby area Saturday morning. The ill-fated trawler was also salvaged by local people. But Palash is missing, police said.

The trawler was going to Muladi with the people, who had gone to visit Allar Masjid, a historical and religious site. M V Manasi-2, which hit the trawler, escaped.

This was the second such incident in five days.

On February 8, a brick-carrying trawler, hit by another launch-- M V Mitali-4--, sank in the Arial Khan river near Kashiganj in Babuganj upazila in the district. Two persons drowned in the incident.
