Fresh breach in Teesta project dam

The breach has been detected in an area stretching about 100 feet along the Observation Road at South Deshibai village in Jaldhaka upazila on Saturday.

Normal movement of both people and vehicles along the road has also been disrupted.

When contacted with the Executive Engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) here, he admitted it to this correspondent saying its repair progresses on emergency basis. 'It may take at least three days for the repair work,' he told The Daily Star.

Local people alleged that the embankment had been constructed with soil instead of earth resulting in the damage.

About a week ago, another part of the embankment had been damaged at Deviganj of Chirirbandar upazila in Dinajpur. Local people complained of below standard work of the embankment.
