Ferry and launch services on Daulatdia-Paturia-Nagarbari routes on the Padma were disrupted for over eight hours from Saturday midnight till about 8am yesterday due to dense fog.

Over 1,100 vehicles with about 30,000 passengers remained stranded at Paturia and Daulatdia ferry terminals creating long jams on both sides of the river as ferries were forced to remain anchored either at ghats or in the mid-river.

According to officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), five ferries -- Shah Mokhdum, Shah Ali, Khan Jahan Ali, Keramat Ali and Bir Shrestha Jahangir --were forced to anchor in the mid- river with around 7000 passengers including women and children on board. Ferry vessel Vasha Shahid Barkat was anchored at Paturia ghat and two others--Shah Jalal and Raipura at Daulatdia ghat , they said.
