ACC commissioner's vitriol

ACC commissioner's vitriol

Unwarranted and unwelcome

A commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday came down heavily on the TIB casting doubt about the latter's integrity in matters of using foreign fund in its research activities. He also threatened to 'unmask' TIB. While railing against the international anti-graft watchdog, the commissioner in question, however, made no bones about his annoyance at the TIB's critique of ACC's efficacy in combating corruption.
We would want to know if his comments reflect the opinion of the ACC as a whole.  If not, we would like to ask whether a commissioner of a statutory body can make such remarks against an international anti-graft watchdog. The imputation made and the threat issued against TIB is serious in nature. And since it is the commissioner who has made the accusations, we believe that it is for him to prove those.
Regrettably, like the degeneration of political discourse that has gone out of control, remarks by the statutory bodies, too, are falling into the same pattern.
It may be recalled that the TIB has in the past helped the ACC greatly in its difficult task of stemming the tide of unbridled corruption in the country. And this has also been acknowledged by the said commissioner.
Since the task of ridding society of corruption is a Herculean one, mutual cooperation is the mantra of achieving that goal. To succeed in its task, we hope, ACC would build necessary rapport, not fall out with, fellow travelers like TIB.
