Bangladesh women's team will look to end their World Twenty20 campaign on a high note when they take on Ireland in the ninth-place play-off at the Sylhet Cricket Stadium today. The match begins at 7:30pm.
Bangladesh will go into the match with confidence sky high as they beat a higher-ranked Sri Lanka in their last group match on Tuesday. History is also in Bangladesh's favour as they won the only time these two sides met – a four wicket victory for Bangladesh over the hosts in August 2012 in Dublin. With the home crowd behind them this time, Bangladesh will look to stamp their credentials as the better of the two newcomers in the World Twenty20s. However, Ireland will not be an easy opposition, as they have performed exceedingly well in this tournament despite losing all four of their group matches.
Meanwhile, New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by six wickets while India defeated Pakistan by six runs in the 2016 World Twenty20 Qualification play-offs in Sylhet yesterday. New Zealand chased down Sri Lanka's score of 131 with six wickets in hand and six balls to spare. Wicketkeeper Rachel Priest scored an unbeaten 42 off 32 deliveries while skipper Suzie Bates smashed 45 off 31 deliveries to guide the two-time finalists home.
Later, India defended a below-par 106 by restricting Pakistan to 100 for nine in twenty overs. Pakistan fell six runs short despite an unbeaten 13-ball 24 from late-order batsman Nida Dar.
