Govt launches Sathi to boost financial inclusion of women

Star Business Report

The government today launched "Sathi" network aiming to include a woman entrepreneur for providing financial services in every union digital centre as part of the government financial inclusion plans for the women.

Initially, the network, an initiative of the A2I programme of the ICD Division, was launched with 100 women entrepreneurs who will provide agent banking and mobile banking services in the centres.

Currently, there are 8,400 union digital centres that facilitate one-stop digital services for rural people.

According to a study of A2I, most of the women in the country feel more comfortable getting financial services from women than men.

Abul Kalam Azad, former chief coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the government and current special envoy of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) Presidency, inaugurated the "Sathi" network at an event at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre in Dhaka.
